just purchased piggly wiggly shredded cheese, noticed it had cellulose as an ingrediate is it safe to eat. saw an article on the TODAY SHOW about this being added to a cheese, and it is a wood pulp.

Cellulose is used in many food products to add bulk. Scientific studies have not shown that it is harmful to humans and FDA considers it safe when used as it is intended in foods. The important issue with cellulose in cheese is that the manufacturer did not label the product correctly and misled consumers.
