I love these plants! It's a Fittonia, sometimes known as a Nerve Plant. It likes medium light, consistently moist soil (but don't overwater). Dip your finger in the soil--when the top 2 inches are dry, it's time to water it thoroughly. Just don't let the pot sit in water after you water it. It likes average indoor temperatures. It also likes high humidity, so you may want to set the pot on pebbles in a saucer with about ½ of water to keep the air moist around it—just don’t let the pot SIT in water. The pot should be resting on the pebbles, and the top of the pebbles should be above the water level. You can fertilize it with a balanced houseplant fertilizer every couple months during the growing season--spring through early autumn.
