Does the Extension Service and/or Federal Government have any information on Freeze Drying Foods and/or Food Freeze Dryers???

I am not aware of any information available from the Extension Service or USDA for freeze dried foods you can do at home since it takes very specialized equipment to do the freeze dry process.  I have heard that there are companies that have developed home models but they are very expensive to purchase.
