I recently purchased a Jefferson variety Hazelnut tree.Do I need to plant a pollinator of a different variety, or one of the same?

Hello,
Yes, you will need to plant a  pollenizer for your 'Jefferson' trees. The publication below about the 'Jefferson' hazelnut has a pollinizer section that answers your question.  Some cultivars mentioned are 'Gamma', 'Yamhill' 'Theta' and 'Eta'.  The link below gives more specific information to help you out.

Thanks, that was extremely helpful.  But I have a few more related questions.  Where would I find these pollinator partners?   How do I learn to inoculate roots?

Hello,
Try calling your local retail nurseries to see which hazelnuts they carry.  Also, One Green World Nursery in Mulino has many fruit/nut trees and they may have what you need.

I am unsure what you mean about innoculating the roots.
