Using Roundup Above Cesspool #189447

Asked June 08, 2014, 7:01 PM EDT

I have a very overgrown yard and it has weeds growing up through the river rock covering the area below which a cesspool was installed in 1960 when our duplex was built. Does the application of Roundup now and ongoing twice a year conflict with or affect the bacterial action of the cesspool? If yes, is there an alternative weed killer that will not harm the cesspool action?

Lincoln County Oregon

Expert Response

Application of glyphosate (Roundup) to weeds should not interfere with the bacterial action of the cesspool.  In terms of product selection, it is probably one of the better choices for this type of application.  Regards, Andy
