I have a young one-year-old hen. She is a Black Beauty sex-link (she`s new to me in the last month). I have noticed in the last 2 weeks that her wattle/comb has turned a light orange. Her skin is a light yellow. I don`t know whether that is a normal color skin for her. Besides the change in color of comb/wattle, the hen is keeping more to herself and seems to be slightly lethargic. Plus, I have noticed her pecking at her feet as if something bothers her. I have checked, and nothing seems wrong with her feet. I have isolated her, and she is eating okay. She loves grapes and lettuce but does not like her own food too much.

I need more information to narrow down the possible problem. There could be a disease problem, management problem, or feed problem, with other potential possibilities as well.
You say that the hen likes lettuce and grapes but not her own feed. What are you feeding? About how much per day of each component?
Is the hen laying? If so, how often? Are the shells of good quality?
Are there other birds in the flock? If so, are they okay?
Thank you for responding. I have 10 other chickens in addition to the one in question. I receive approximately 5 to 8 eggs a day. Of the eggs, I get an egg or two that has a very thin shell. The food I feed is Purina Layena Pellets. I have a feeder I fill for the chickens to free-feed. I do feed all the chickens kitchen scraps that include vegetables, fruit, leftover white and brown rice, and so on. I do feed them corn and some seeds that I purchase specifically for chickens. I give them the corn, etc., when I free-range them. I free-range 4 to 6 times a week. The chickens also live with 3 ducks, so I am constantly giving the chickens fresh water every day, sometimes 2 to 3 times a day. But her pecking at her feet is quite bizarre, to the point that it seems as if she will fall over on her head. When I isolated her to see whether she was eating and doing all the correct chicken behavior, she seemed to liven up and eat the lettuce and grapes and also some corn, but she was not interested in her pellet food, as I had commented previously. It came from a new bag of food purchased in the past month. Also, she was quite active in my arms while I was examining her. Any help would be highly appreciated.
While the table scraps, lettuce, grapes, etc sounds good, they have poor nutrition for chickens, (except meat scraps). Vegatables are mostly water and fiber with little protein or other nutrients. Considers these supplements as if they were candy or ice cream, a littie is ok, but if they eat a lot they will not eat the nutritious feed, the pelleted diet. The pelleted feed is nutritionally balanced so the chickens don't need anything else. If they fill up with lettuce, or corn, the nutritional balance will be off and over time the birds may have problems. I suggest feeding only a littie supplement to "forde" them to consume the prepared feed.
As far as the feet picking, either there is an irritant or it is a behavioral issue with this bird. Scally leg mite is a remote possibility, it will appear that the scales on the legs are "erupting" (being pushed up from, underneath). If this is the case, apply petroleum jelly to the legs several time a week for a couple of weeks to suffocate the mites.
