Inner yellowing of emerald green arborvitae #368095

I bought 65 arborvitae trees from Menards in April.  They are were about 6-7' tall.  Around July I noticed that on some lower small areas the leaves turned black.  I cut them off in case it was mold or a fungus as I didn't want it to spread.  Now we come to October and I noticed that the entire inner of the trees are yellowing.  They have grown at lease a foot and have gotten wider.  I had them planted approximately 32-36" apart for use as fencing.  Is this normal fall yellowing?  Do they need more water?  We dug down with just couple inches and soil is black and moist.  No one seems to know anything about arborvitae trees.  Please Help!!

Ailing pine tree #367525

It looks like two pine trees of the same variety at the top of the hill are ill. Attached are pictures to show the yellowing of the needles. Is whatever is happening with those two trees likely to spread to the row of four other varieties of Evergreen on the hill? Are there preventative measures needed?

how often to mow horse pasture #328635

you guys have been great answering questions about my horse pasture in Twisp. Here is another one:  I have 5 irrigated acres and am grazing 3 horses.  no cross fencing or rotation.  it is all going well and they are eating most of it but just for pasture health shouldn't i  mow and rehab parts of it?  how many times per growing season should I mow it?  in other parts of the state i mowed maybe once or twice per year but we lived on the west side with tons of rain then summer drought so i don't know how to handle an irrigated pasture.  i'm just think for pasture health and weeds and all it should be mowed at least once.  what kind of strategy would you suggest?  i really don't want to get into many rotating sections but i could maybe cut it in half and mow half and let that rehab.   they are not overgrazing it at all , if anything they aren't quite keeping up.  let me know.

Field to pasture #326853

I have a 5-7 acre field that was used for corn last year. The stalks have since been cut and the weeds have grown over. I was hoping to turn the field into a pasture for horse grazing. My plan was to spray an herbicide, when the weeds died I would then till under and plant an appropriate pasture mix. Can you suggest an herbicide? Any other advice is also welcomed.

Pine Tree Issue? #284127

Hi. We just bought a house last year and it came with some pine trees in the back yard. It looks like they are about half way through turning completely brown and dropping needles. Is this common? We thought that pine trees were green year round. Just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with the tree and if there is something we can do for it. Picture attached. Thanks!

Hello, I've just discovered we have several black walnut trees IN our horse pasture. Also high iron content in sampled pasture area. My horses (many different ones over the years) have had issues as long as i've lived here (18 yrs). Is there any way to safely get rid of the black walnut trees ? My spruce is dying #267466

I've been told it is a Blue Spruce. The tip of the bows are green, sometimes the tips die. the rest of the bow to the trunk of the tree is dead. We put fertilizer spikes at the drip edge in the fall of 2014. it has been this way for at least 10 years. What is wrong with it? and can it be saved? The tree is over 20 years old.

Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to know if riding horses are a good thing for the horses. Those bits hurt the horses a great deal and their mouths become very sore and hard. Is it right to bring our beloved horses such pain and torture? -Random Horse Lover

Evergreen tree problem #221524

We have some evergreens on our property that are drying off. We would like to save them if possible. Can you help? We have uploaded pictures of the trees affected as well as a closeup of the needles where they are dying. Also can you tell what kind of trees they are?

Riding Safety #217002

My Vet has advised me against riding in a pasture where other horses are roaming freely.  She said the behavior of those horses throws a "Wild Card" into how my horse will behave.  Is this true?
 BTW...I am a novice rider.
