Sara Runkel

Assistant Professor of Practice Horticulture

Sara is the Extension Horticulturalist for Josephine County. She develops and provides educational programming for small farms, home, and community horticulture audiences and coordinates the Josephine County Master Gardener Program. She is also a farm food safety educator for the SW Oregon region.

She has Master of Science degree in Sustainable Systems from Slippery Rock University and over 15 years of farming experience. Prior to working for OSU Extension, Sara owned and operated a diversified farm in Pennsylvania where she grew vegetables for a winter CSA, specialty cut flowers, and pastured poultry. Her strengths include beginning farmer training, farm equipment selection and safety, farm food safety, organic specialty crop production (vegetables, fruits, flowers, etc.), value-added production, and direct to consumer marketing.
