Reseeding Pasteur Used For Growing Grass Hay

Asked January 31, 2021, 5:56 PM EST

What month is good for reseeding a 2 acre Pasteur, and what type of seed should I use.

Can I spread the seed by hand or should I have it drilled?

Hello!
You can seed dryland pasture November to April, when the ground is not frozen. Drilling seed is the method of choice, but you can still broadcast seed with success. If you choose to broadcast seed, you need to double to seeding rate.
The selection of seed will be based on your goals for the pasture, what you intend to graze, and your budget. The CSU forage guide (forage-guide.pdf (colostate.edu) can help you make that selection.
Feel free to reach out to your local extension office or Small Acreage Specialist with any other questions.
Thank you!
