Red Osier Dogwood

Asked January 11, 2021, 6:32 PM EST

Hi. I have a Red Osier Dogwood that I bought from the Metro Native Plant Sale a few years ago. It hasn’t grown much at all and only has 1 stem. Should I cut it down to the base or cut at 18” for rejuvenation? Also, can I propagate what I cut easily? If so how do you suggest? Oh, the plant is about 2 to 3 feet tall. 1 stem with a few branches coming off of it. Thanks!! C.Schramer

Thank you for your question. This is a shrub, not a tree, so, when full grown, it will have many stems, not branches. Pruning it down will not produce new stems. Are you able to send a photo of the plant? Thanks!
