controlling apple pests

Asked January 2, 2021, 12:52 PM EST

My one little Fuji apple tree is demolished every year by some type of insect that lays it progeny early who then burrow out and destroy the apple internally. What are these, and how do I control them?

Thank you for your question. Without photos of the damage to your apples, we are unable to identify the specific pest. Here is an Extension article on the possibilities, including codling moth and apple maggot, as well as recommendations to treat them: Here is a second publication on care of fruit trees in the home garden, generally: I hope these are helpful. Good luck!
