Hello,
I'll do my best, but not knowing the geographic location and the size of the spider it is somewhat difficult to identify. Having said that, it does resemble the Black House Spider, perhaps Badumna insignis . If so, it is considered venomous, but not deadly. The Badumna spiders are shy and seldom bites. The bite may be quite painful and cause local swelling similar to a wasp or bee sting. More severe symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, sweating and giddiness are occasionally recorded. In a few cases skin lesions have developed after multiple bites.
You read more about the Badumna genus's in Wikipedia.
Have a safe holiday season.
