Is this Cherry Tree in trouble?
I noticed yesterday that there is a rotting spot on my ornamental cherry just above the graft line. The lowest black spot is soft like compost about 1/2 inch down. I haven’t noticed any dying branches or leaf issues, or any other signs of rot. There is some scarring higher up the trunk. Will this tree need to come out, or is there a treatment?

Yes,I suspect the tree is in serious trouble as it appears that the trunk is encircled by a swollen ring of tissue. If this is the site of the graft, it's possible that the graft is failing.
More than likely, the tree's fate will be obvious this spring when part, or all, of the tree fails to leaf out. Only time will tell.
