Unfortunately, the poor focus of the image obscures the key characteristics required for precise identification. That said, it is in the Mygalomorph group and could be a purseweb spider.
Fortunately, even though the large stout Mygalomorph spiders give many people the willies, they are not dangerous in any way to people and their pets. They construct silken webs in or near the ground and prey on small wandering insects.
In general, all spiders are considered beneficial becasue their favored diet consists of small insects.
