Help! I mistakenly used regular yeast when the recipe called for instant. Can I still continue or throw it out?
Multnomah County Oregon
Instant yeast has finer, smaller grains than regular active dry yeast. This increased surface area allows for a faster rehydration process so it acts faster. Regular yeast will just take longer to rise, it should still work. Unless you are using a bread machine. The timing in a bread machine isn't long enough to allow the dough to rise before it moves to the next step, so the bread will be heavy. I don't think you can set the timing on a machine to allow for extra time.
