Butterfly and bee attractors
Is there a local mix of wildflower seeds you can buy to attract bees and butterflies? If not, which flowers are best here in Roseburg? Thank you, Bob Read
Douglas County Oregon
Wildflower mixes often have lots of non native plant seeds in them that are invasive species when planted out of their natural habitats. The other problem we face is that our summers are so dry it is difficult to get wildflowers to do much in non irrigated areas. If you intend to spread seed you will need to seed them early in April for any significant growth. Look for a mix that has plants you are familiar with like yarrow, columbine, bachelor buttons, rudbeckia, coreopsis, and California poppy. I generally prefer to choose just 2-3 flowers and order those kind of seed so you don't get the invasive plants. Stick with California poppy, yarrow, columbine and rudbeckia.
