Do dalhias have to be dug up in the fall or will the bulbs survive our winters?
Forsyth County North Carolina
Most people dig them up and store them indoors in a cool dark place for the winter as insurance. I also know those who leave them planted outside and simply mulch heavily with straw or pine straw - 8 inches or so thick. In most winters this is fine. Some varieties are a little more cold hardy than others as well.
