What is the best cover crop for a residential garden?

Thanks for the question. Cover crop selection really depends on when you can plant it and what you want to accomplish (erosion control, weed suppression, adding organic material, etc.). Another consideration is how you will incorporate the crop in the spring. Some crops like oats and peas will winter kill, but rye will not. For many gardeners, the opportunity to plant a fall cover crop comes late and limits what you can plant.
