acorns on newly sown seed

Asked October 22, 2020, 11:29 AM EDT

I have recently sown grass seed on my yard. I have oak trees that have covered part of my yard with acorn. What should I do about the acorns? Thank you, Chester Cooke

Hello, Chester.

I'm afraid that you have an unresolveable problem. If you walk on your seed to pick up or rake the acorns off, you'll harm your grass seed. If you leave the acorns on the ground, grass will have a difficult time germinating where the acorns are covering the seed up. There is no good solution when grass seed is sown late and trees are releasing leaves and seed onto the same area as they prepare for winter dormancy.
