I have what I believe is a Crimson Queen Japanese Maple in the front yard. As you can see by the photo, it is surrounded by weeds. We tried mulch, but the weeds got the best of it. How can we get rid of the weeks, without killing the maple.
Oakland County Michigan
That does look weedy. The good news is that most of those look new and the roots may be shallow. You can pull them by hand. Keep in mind some of these weeds will die over the winter. A thick layer of mulch should be used in the spring when you start fresh. I also wanted to share this using herbicides safely around trees article I found if that is your preference.
