I had pokeweed grow in my front yard but when I dug it up it had unusually large roots. They were bigger than a large potato, which is really big for pokeweed. I looked for pictures of pokeweed Roots online and couldn't find anything, and in the picture below I had accidentally cut part of it off with a shovel.

Yeah, sorry I didn't realize I forgot to ask a question. I was wondering what caused this pokeweed root to be bigger than other pokeweed.

Roots often able to grow larger because the soil is not compacted. Hope this is helpful.
