This will depend on the type of shed - including ventilation, presence of perches, flooring, etc. It will also depend on the type of chickens - leghorns versus Plymouth rocks, for example. But I would allow at least 2 square feet per hen. So, 50x50= 2500 square feet so a maximum of 1250 hens. If ventilation is poor, that number needs to be reduced dramatically.
