Bushes that survive ND winters

Asked September 28, 2020, 11:22 AM EDT

I want to purchase medium size bushes for my property line, 2 acres. I would like bushes that have fall colors of orange, yellow, red, brown and purple. Plus they have to survive the ND winters. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your question. There are many shrubs suitable for ND and it's winters that will provide great fall color. I will mention a few but am going to provide a link for you to explore shrubs suitable for ND as well. This link will give you all the details about the shrub from leaf and fruit colors to hardiness and pest problems.

For purple fall color: Canada Red Chokecherry, American Cranberry, and Redosier Dogwood (this also has red bark, which will pop in the winter).

For red/orange fall color: Sumac, Russian Almond, and Nannyberry Viburnum.

For yellow fall color: Caragana, Western Sandcherry, and Skunkbush Sumac.
