How do established Joe Pye and coneflower spread, do they reseed themselves or do they spread under ground? How well do either start from seed from another plant?

Coneflowers reseed readily but the plants don't spread much. You can collect and plant the seeds or let nature do the work for you.

Joe Pye weed self seeds and it has a spreading root system so the clumps expand too. According to some references, Joe Pye produces a lot of seeds but the germination rate is low.
