Beneficial insect or not?

Asked September 22, 2020, 1:52 PM EDT

I just found what looks to be some sort of insect eggs that I have not seen before. Theybare about the size of flax seeds..any idea what they are?

These appear to be either seeds rather than insects, though if they are insects, they appear to be parasitized by an insect-specific fungus. You can pluck one off and cut it in half to see if it's fairly solid (like a seed) or gooey like an insect. We do not recognize what they were if they are indeed dead insects, but in either case they do not appear harmful. What are the plants in the area of this object and what is the object that they are wedged into?
