Hydrangeas are not blooming

Asked September 19, 2020, 7:20 PM EDT

I have 7 regular Pom Pom hydrangeas in various parts of my yard. All have beautiful leaves, but none are flowering this year. They range in age from 7-9 years in age. They were pruned in spring just like I do every year. My zip code is 48451. I have never fertilized them....but they’ve always had a nice show of flowers up until this year. What do you think is going on?

This type of hydrangea blooms on old wood. Pruning should be done right after blooming. Because it is a reblooming hydrangea, you probably still got flowers in previous years from buds that formed during the growing season. However, the late hard freeze in early May could very well have damaged any buds that may have been forming.
