Ivory Halo Dogwood Mold?

Asked September 18, 2020, 10:16 AM EDT

Good morning,

This morning I was pruning my Ivory Halo Dogwood next to my house and discovered what appears to be a mold substance. There is quite a lot of it. Any idea what it is, why it is there and care instructions? Thank you so very much for your time and expertise!

Thank you for your question. This is not mold. Rather, it is the white waxy substance produced by planthoppers. It is not damaging and does not require any treatment. Here is more info about it: http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/planthoppers-flowers
