Peaches and frost

Asked September 17, 2020, 6:43 PM EDT

Hello, we live in Beulah MI and have a peach tree that is almost ready for harvest. It is forcasted that we may get frost in the next few nights. Should we harvest the fruit and let it ripen indoors or will it be fine on the tree. I can't find any information about frost and mature fruit. Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks!

A light frost will not cause damage to peaches on the tree. It would be no different than storing peaches in a refrigerator. A heavy freeze, however, would cause damage. The weather predictions are not calling for freezes, only frosts, so you should be ok as long as the forecast doesn’t change.
