Large green caterpillar

Any idea what this thing is?? Obviously the larva of a large moth or butterfly, I can find no image of it in my literature. It was seen in the woods about 7 miles north of Chelsea Michigan, September 13th.
It is 3 to 3 and 1/2 in Long, probably fell out of a tree.
