weed vs wildflower

Asked September 11, 2020, 1:09 PM EDT

We have this very healthy looking plant in our flower garden in Rockville, MD. It is 4 feet high and there are several of them in the garden. I assume they are weeds but wanted to be sure. Any ID on this?

It may be a native aster. It looks like it is about to bloom. If you send us photos of the plant with flowers, we can give you a better id.

Native aster does not look like what I see on the internet for this plant. Very tiny white flowers, plant is 4 ft in height. Here are more pics. Any ID on this? Thanks.

This appears to be Canadian horseweed (Conyza canadensis).

These are native to all of the US and Canada, but most people consider them to be weeds in a garden setting.
