Planting time for daffodil bulbs

Asked September 8, 2020, 4:40 PM EDT

Hi, there! I live in the Ann Arbor area and am expecting some daffodil bulbs in about a month (through the mail). I’ll be out of town, though, until early November. Will that be too late to plant them?
Thank you in advance.

It could be a bit late, but if the ground is workable/not frozen it may be okay. Ideally, you plant when nighttime air temperatures are consistently between 40 F and 50 F. If the soil temps are below 40 F, you can get improper root and shoot development. It may be helpful to add a 2-3in layer of mulch after planting to try and help buffer soil from freezing soon after you plant.
