grassy weed

Asked September 7, 2020, 9:23 PM EDT

Please identify this plant and means to control it. The leaves are cut off by the lawn mower in this picture but they grow rapidly (much faster than the normal lawn grass). This has been spreading through out my lawn over the last few years. The stems tend to fall over as they get longer.
Thanks.

We cannot identify it from the photo. Look at the perennial grassy weeds here: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/lawn-weed-id-and-management

It may be orchard grass. Possibly quackgrass, though it looks more like a clump-former. Click on the individual grass and look at more images online if that would help.
If you can send us clear photos of its seeds and close-up of the stems and leaves, we may be able to be more helpful.
