Pruning a Sargent Tina Crabapple

Asked August 25, 2020, 12:49 PM EDT

Hi, We have a Sargent Tina Crabapple that needs some pruning, both of dead branches and new growth for shaping. In previous years we have waited until winter to prune, but I'm wondering if I can do some of the pruning now.

It is best to wait. Dead branches can be pruned off anytime but shaping should be done during the dormant period. Pruning now will also stress your tree and the hot weather is already stressing your tree.
