brown spots on yard

We are having trouble with brown spots on our yard. They look like dead footprints. We would appreciate any help

Thank you for submitting your question. There are a variety of diseases and insects that can interrupt the healthy growth of lawn grass. Hot, dry weather sometimes stresses and weakens the grass and introduces the possibility of disease. Insects are also a possibility. Below are two links that may help you determine which problem you are dealing with. If you can observe and send a picture of any insect you suspect is causing the damage, that would be helpful in determining treatment. If after viewing the links below you think it might be a disease causing the damage, you could submit a sample of the damaged area to the University of Minnesota’s Plant Disease Clinic.
