When to prune flowers off of a hydrangea

Asked August 22, 2020, 7:11 PM EDT

We have a hydrangea that had beautiful deep purple flowers for most of the summer. They are now fading and beginning to look past their prime. Is it best to cut off the flowers now, or leave them on as interest through the winter? If we do leave them on through the winter, what is the best time to cut off the flowers before spring?

It's your choice to remove the blossom when they're past their prime or to leave them on through the winter.

If they remain through the winter, trim them off as the leaf and flower buds begin to swell in the spring.

Enjoy your garden.
