Add color to my hill!

Asked August 15, 2020, 1:44 PM EDT

I live in Coon Rapids, MN and my house has a sandy hill in the back(see picture). I am wondering what kind of wild flowers I can use to try and add color to the hill. I would prefer self seeding for the simplicity of it! I see Black-eyed Susans are used in open areas and ditches at local parks.... thoughts?

The site appears to be an ideal location to reconstruct a native prairie plant community. Most seed mixtures formulated for this purpose include grasses and wildflowers that provide an array of color from May through November or the first snowfall. Black-eyed susans are almost always included in these seed mixtures.

The following handbook contains all you need to know to accomplish this. https://files.dnr.state.mn.us/assistance/backyard/prairierestoration/goingnative.pdf
