Should I handle my snake if not eating?

I got my new ball python 10 years old in good shape heathy, I want to start handleing him but he has not been eating starting for almost a month since i got him he had a shed so i thought that was the reason but he is not taking any food i only handle him one time but I think I should wait until I get him to eat
