Monarch eggs

Asked August 13, 2020, 2:09 PM EDT

I've noticed that the butterflies in August are laying eggs on the seed pods instead of the leaves. Is this common and will they survive?

That is very interesting as the rabbits have eaten a lot of my milkweed. I will check the pods of the ones that are left. The caterpillars prefer the tender young leaves but in a pinch, I guess any will do.
Yes there is enough time between now and migration for eggs laid now to mature into butterflies.
