Cherry Leaf Spot

Asked August 12, 2020, 3:28 PM EDT

I have 22 Cherry Tress Bing, Sweetheart, Coral and Black Tartarian . Some of them appear to have Cherry Leaf Spot. What is the treatment I should be doing. I live just outside of North Plains. Thank you. Tim Schallich

Hi Tim,

Here are links to two key resources for cherry pest and disease management in the Willamette Valley.

The first is the PNW disease management handbook page for cherry leaf spot: https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/cherry-prunus-spp-leaf-spot

This second reference is for the 2020 Cherry Pest Management Guide for the Willamette Valley: https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/em8329

As old infected leaves can be a source of spores that can cause infection on new leaves, a good cultural control is to promote breakdown of old leaves prior to budbreak (flail, compost etc.).

Fungicide treatments are timed for petal fall, shuck fall, and then two weeks later. Both links above give recommended fungicides.
