Emerald Ash Borer Concern

I had to cut off a 2" branch from my front yard ash so a truck could get by. Should I treat the cut branch stub with a tar or wound dressing to protect it from the emerald ash borer? (I started last year with the ash borer treatments by a tree service.) Thanks, Jack

Hi Jack--

The research says that tar or wound dressing is probably actually worse for the tree than leaving it alone. Trees have their own way of healing over their wounds. The protocol is no different for ash trees these days. Emerald Ash Borers bore in through the bark of a tree so even if the tar was effective, they'd still be able to get in.
