Nanking Cherry tree fungus

Asked August 6, 2020, 5:34 PM EDT

The tree developed white hard blobs on the trunk. In March rabbits ringed the tree. We cut it down to about two feet and the base is sprouting. The? Fungus is back. We particularly want to save the tree Because the fruit is translucent champagne colored cherries that taste normal How can we treat this tree?

The leaves are being chewed by Japanese beetles. I can’t tell where the fungus is in relation to the tree from the photo. Is it on the new trunk? I can’t tell if they are lichens or a slime mold or something else. Diagnosis from photo is difficult. Crisp focus and high resolution really help.
