silver maple grey liquid from leaves

Asked August 6, 2020, 2:09 PM EDT

Our large silver maple in June had a greyish-white liquid dropping from the leaves. Once the liquid stopped the leaves are left with a dirty greyish appearance (in photo). Perhaps associated or not, there are also a few dead branch tips shown in a picture. Could you give me an idea what is going on? Thanks. We are in Canada at 50' N

Thank you for your question. We have been unable to find any expert familiar with the issue, in some part because we don't know what region you are in. I suggest you contact the Master Gardeners Association in your province, whose members are familiar with local conditions and testing facilities.
