native flowers from bulbs; Joe Pye weed

Asked August 5, 2020, 4:29 PM EDT

Are there any native spring-blooming flowers that grow from bulbs? Should I buy and plant Joe Pye weed in the Fall or wait until Spring?

Joe Pye weed can be planted in either spring or fall.
Some native spring/summer flowering bulbs to consider include Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Trillium, Trout Lily and Liatris.

Here is our native plant page to explore: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/native-plants
Be sure to check out the "resources" link too which is very helpful.
