spaghetti squash vs. deer

Asked July 22, 2020, 11:59 AM EDT

The deer have eaten approximately half of the leaves off of the spaghetti squash vine - will the actual squash fruit still continue to mature? They are currently baseball to softball sized. Thank you.

Thank you for your question.
Deer usually eat the young leaves, but sometimes they will eat any size leaves.
If the plant still looks healthy, and not wilted, there is a very good chance the fruit will mature. Try to keep the deer from removing more for the leaves. With continual defoliation it will kill your squash plant. https://extension.umn.edu/rsdp-happenings/protecting-our-gardens-deer https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/white-tailed-deer-damage
