Sudden small mound of ground swelling

Asked July 21, 2020, 10:42 AM EDT

There's a ~3 ft area of lawn/yard between my neighbor and me that has recently "swollen" to a small mound. We're wondering about the cause, and if we need to do anything about it. I've researched on-line possibilities, yet I can't find anything that seems to fit our situation. I'm thinking that it may be weather related or possibly a natural gas pocket that's formed below the surface. What do you think? Terry Parker, 2237 Shaker Run Road, Lexington, Ky. 40509

If at all possible to send, pictures would help tremendously here. You can email those directly to me at carrie.spry@uky.edu . If that is not feasible, call me directly at (859) 257-5582 at the Fayette Extension Office and we'll go from there. Thanks!
