Grass or grain in my flowerbeds?

Asked July 20, 2020, 5:03 PM EDT

I have a flowerbed that is chock FULL of some kind of grass. It literally looks like someone dumped a bag of seeds or something in this bed, it’s crowding out all my other plants!! There’s so many that weeding it is proving troublesome. Please can you tell me what it is?? Thank you!

Hello,

Thank you for your pictures. It looks like could be wild proso millet (panicum miliaceum) but because some grass type plants are so similar it can be difficult to identify. It is the fine hairs along the leaf blade that is distinctive. If these have developed a seed head a picture of that would also help. In the meantime I am sending you information on wild proso millet for you to compare.
