Black spots on pear leaf

Asked July 20, 2020, 2:25 PM EDT

Hello, I have a common pear tree and recently noticed that the leaves had black spots on them. Some turned fully black and fell off the tree. Is this pear blight? Should I be cutting off all affected limbs to prevent spread? It’s on most of the trees limbs, is there a way to save the tree?

Thank you for your question. Your tree appears to have fabraea leaf spot (, but we have no diagnostic tools in Oregon to confirm that it is present in California. I suggest you contact your own county extension service for assistance: Good luck!
