Tree fungus
This fungus or whatever is taking over my entire property. What is it? Is it harmful to the trees? Should I take action to eliminate it, if so what can I do to kill it?

Hello,
This appears to be lichen. Lichen do not harm the trees, and occurs naturally in the woods. While it is a fungus that uses the bark as a host, it does not harm the tree. The fence probably had the spores a the time the rails were cut and it continued to grow.
