Rose Bush Leaf Problem

Asked July 12, 2020, 12:43 PM EDT

Please help! Some of my Rose Bush leaves are experiencing holes, and I can’t figure out what is causing it and how to treat it. See attached image.

Hello. These holes are likely caused by 2 different insects. The smaller holes probably started out to be small brown spots and the center has fallen out. This is caused by the larvae of a sawfly, the rose slug. These insects have developed and moved on. The larger holes are from another insect-perhaps a slug or Japanese beetle- but you will need to see them in order to know for sure what it is. Sometimes it is helpful to go out after dark with a flashlight to see if it is an insect that is munching at night. I hope this helps.

Thank you Marcia L. :-)
