Help! With older yellow leaves (corn, pumpkins)

Asked July 11, 2020, 1:12 PM EDT

Help! My pot garden corn and mini-pumpkins have yellow leaves starting with oldest at the bottom of each. The beans in with them seem to be OK. Too much water, not enough? Or too much or little of something else? Thanks, David

Thank you for your question. I think your plants need to be fertilized. Yellowing indicates a lack of nitrogen, and corn, especially, needs a lot. If you did not add fertilizer before you planted the seeds, now is the time. The following Extension publication has directions for this (page 10) and other vegetable gardening advice: Good luck!
